On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health reported 757 new cases of COVID-19, a decrease of 308 in the last twenty-four hours, pushing the pandemic total to more than 319,000. However, 74 deaths were attributed to coronavirus on Saturday and 250 on Sunday, meaning 4,901 Iowans have succumbed to COVID-19. Since 5:00 on Friday afternoon in central Iowa, 282 new cases of coronavirus have been identified in Polk County along with 28 deaths; 56 in Story and one death; 46 in Dallas with six deaths; two in Greene along with one death there; one in Webster and four deaths; none in Hamilton, but six deaths; and 13 this weekend in Boone County with half a dozen deaths blamed on COVID-19. There is a little good news: 358 Iowans are hospitalized with coronavirus, a drop of 18 from Saturday and now well over 282,000 have recovered, including 1,946 in Boone County, where the fourteen-day positivity rate decreased a percentage point this past week to 8%.
