Our country has been facing an increasing mental health crisis among youth and young adults, with suicide being the second leading cause of death for ages 15 to 34 in Iowa.

Friday, February 19th, the second annual “Night of Hope” took place at Grace Community Church. The event features uplifting music and messages to bring awareness to our nation’s mental health issue, and offer our local youth an outlet for guidance through church support groups. During the COVID-19 pandemic, youth leaders have seen an increase in students seeking help, making it even more important to hold this event to show support for our youth.

Night of Hope began last year in collaboration with Grace Community Church, the Salvation Army and several other churches after the community suffered the devastating loss of 13 year Anthony Kepple to suicide. This year we welcomed Nashville touring artist Cade Thompson, and Iowa-based artists, Jonathan Stone and RaJan Monroe.

Cade Thompson is an energetic and soulful Contemporary Christian music artist with a sound that appeals to believers and mainstream pop audiences alike. Cade has an admirable ability to transform his thoughts and faith into a powerful collection of melodies and lyrics that inspire people of all ages to step into all that God has for them.

Johnathan Stone is a touring artist and youth coordinator from Nevada, IA. Johnathan has performed his Christian Hip-Hop music throughout the midwest and even in Alaska. He addressed important topics like bullying, suicide, God’s love and more, in ways that resonate with audiences of all ages.

RaJan Monroe is a Christian Hip Hop artist from Des Moines, IA. Rajan’s music is a reflection of his deep roots in Hip-Hop culture and spiritual background. He showcases lyrical ability and sonically embraces the emotion of life within his songs. Rajan also hosts “Rajan with Pulse Mornings” on Pulse 101.7FM.
