Posted on 10 March 2021 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Boone County will host a virtual Beekeeping 101  course via Zoom on Monday March 15th and 22nd at 5:30 PM.

Beekeeping can be a fascinating hobby, a profitable side venture, or a full-time occupation. You may want to keep bees for the delicious fresh honey they produce, for the benefits of their valuable services as pollinators, or perhaps simply for the enjoyment of learning more about one of nature’s most interesting insects.

Zack Koopman, ISU Agriculture Specialist, will lead this two-day virtual course via Zoom .  The ‘Beekeeping Basics’ course is designed to introduce the fundamentals of beekeeping and help attendees decide if this hobby is right for them.

  • Night one: basics on equipment and startup decisions.
  • Night two: management decisions and honey harvest

Pre-Registration is required. Contact the Boone County Extension office at 515-432-3882 or ahooper@iastate.edu to preregister and submit a $5 payment to Boone County Extension 1327 SE Marshall St Boone, IA 50036.
