BOONE, Iowa—The Muscular Dystrophy Association announced today that it’s 2021 Shamrock Round Up Campaign with Fareway Stores, Inc. raised $241,549 to help transform the lives of children and adults living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases.
“Once again, Fareway Stores, Inc, their customers, and employees have gone above and beyond to make a meaningful difference for people whose everyday freedoms – walking, talking and even breathing – have been taken away by neuromuscular diseases,” said MDA National Manager, Consumer Engagement and Cause Partnerships, Jillian Harper. “It is because of their generosity that MDA is able to provide lifesaving research and support to help these individuals and their families live longer, grow stronger and experience a world without limits.”
“For the past 29 years, we’ve taken great pride in helping further the mission of MDA to find a cure for debilitating muscle diseases,” said Fareway President and CEO Reynolds W. Cramer. “This life-saving work would not be possible without the generosity of our customers and their on-going support of the Shamrocks Round Up campaign.”
From February 22nd to March 17th, Fareway Stores, Inc. locations participated in the nation’s largest St. Patrick’s Day fundraising program in which associates ask guests to round up their total at checkout for MDA. Each donation symbolizes the movement to cure these diseases for MDA families in the communities Fareway serves.
Since first teaming up with MDA in 1992, Fareway Stores, Inc. and its customers have raised funds and awareness to help MDA provide the families it serves with critical resources and support to fulfill life goals. This year, the MDA Shamrocks Round Up program united thousands of retail locations throughout the country to benefit the organization’s shared mission to fund groundbreaking research across diseases and provide individuals with life-enhancing programs and support services, including state-of-the-art multidisciplinary care the MDA Care Center at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Recent major medical and scientific advancements including the development of twelve new FDA approved treatments in the past six years, and the promise of more to come, make today the most optimistic time in the history of neuromuscular disease research and care. These advances are made possible in part by the funds raised and support given over the years by Fareway Stores, Inc.
