PILOT MOUND, Iowa—Jeffrey Hank Lass, age 61 of Pilot Mound, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at his home.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the Pilot Mound Cemetery in Pilot Mound. A Celebration of Jeff’s Life will follow inurnment at the Lass family home in Pilot Mound.

Jeffy was born to Donald Robert Sr. and Sarah Lorraine (Parks) Lass on January 29, 1959 at the Boone County Hospital. He graduated from Grand Community High School in 1978.

One month after graduating high school, Jeff began his career at Fareway Stores Inc. where he worked in the warehouse. He worked there for 36 years, before retiring in January of 2014.

Jeffy was united in marriage with Sally Schwarte on June 7, 1997 in the old Pilot Mound United Methodist Church.

With two words, ‘I do’, Jeffy instantly became a husband, father, and grandfather. He was loved dearly by them. He had many, many friends throughout town that he considered family too. He had a gentle heart that everyone loved. Jeffy would tell Sally he was going to get the mail and she knew that would take at least an hour, because there would always be someone for him to talk to while he was out.

Jeffy was a member of the Pilot Mound United Methodist Church and greatly enjoyed helping with the funeral luncheons, making his famous potato salad. He loved the outdoors! Jeff enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, four wheeling, and gardening. Jeffy enjoyed snowmobiling with his buddies, and with that came the group raising heck wherever they went. They called themselves Team Fukowee, as they get to the top of a hill and look around, they would say, “Where the fukowee?!” Of this tribe of snowmobilers, Jeffy was the last chief of the group. Jeffy also loved his pets as part of the family, his dog Bow and Miss Kitty brought so much joy to his life.

Jeffy was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Sarah; brothers, Donald “Buddy” Lass Jr. and Keith Lass; and sister, Sharon Myers. He is survived by his wife, Sally of Pilot Mound; children, Scott Koppit of Pilot Mound, Tracy (William) Alvarez – Cuebas of Ames, and Trisha (Kenneth) Odhiambo of Grand Rapids, MI; grandchildren, Kaydin Milani of Ames, Madison (Joey Romero) of Coulter, and Eli and Zane Odhiambo of Grand Rapids, MI; uncle, Lloyd Lass of Pahrump, NV; niece, Shona Lass; nephew, Billy Myers; along with numerous friends and relatives.

We will always remember Jeffy cracking jokes, he always made us laugh. But we will meet again at the “Whoop Ta Gra on the Palm De Derro at the Fratte Terro”

Love you all, Jeffy!

Dilly! Dilly!

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Jeff’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com
