Boone County Alert System to be Replaced with Smart911

Posted on 17 June 2021 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—Many Boone County residents have been receiving alert messages through the Boone County Alert System, but recently, Emergency Management Coordinator Lance Kooiker announced that the county will move to a newer alert system.  Effective July 1st, Boone County, in conjunction with the State of Iowa, will replace its current alert system, hosted by Rave Alert and Smart 911. Iowa’s emergency notification system is receiving an upgrade that will increase its capabilities to provide emergency and public safety information to citizens. Currently, 90 counties are using Alert Iowa. Residents will begin receiving messages generated by the new platform by July, when the system transition will be complete.

***Unfortunately, if you are a current user of Boone County Alert Iowa your information will not automatically switch over. You will need to register again.

You are welcome to sign up now, just visit: https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/reg.action?pa=boonecountyia or download the Smart911 App.

To ensure you receive the latest weather and emergency alerts we encourage you to re-register through our new system. With this switch, residents will have access to new features and functions that will enhance how you receive alerts!

For those who do not want to use the App, a County opt-in page will still be available to you by using the link above. The opt-in page will now also allow you to register multiple addresses and numbers, and create a user account.
