BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for Melanie Ann Camp-Lindahl, who was born on December 2, 1960 in Webster City, Iowa. She passed away at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines on Friday, July 9, 2021. She was the beloved daughter of Donald Sr. and Marlene (Mathews) Camp.
She graduated from Boone High School in 1980. During her senior year, she worked at the Salvation Army Church and the National Guard Armory. She continued her education at Des Moines Area Community College. She worked at 3M in Ames for a short time.
She was united in marriage to Kevin Lindahl on September 25, 1982. They later divorced. They had two twin sons, Christopher and Nicholas who were born on Christmas Day. They brought much joy to the family watching them grow to be adults. They had a rough beginning since they were born prematurely. Melanie was very proud of her two boys.
She attended the Boone Open Bible Church in Boone. She loved to sing and was on the worship team. She was preceded in death by her father Donald Camp; maternal grandmother Margaret (Lash) Mathews; maternal grandfather Lyle Mathew; paternal grandmother Vera (Leist) Camp, and paternal grandfather Ralph Leist.
Survivors include her sons Christopher Lindahl of Boone, and Nicholas (Kelsey) Lindahl of Huxley; mother Marlene Camp of Boone; brothers Donald and wife Lisa Camp of Boone and Rodney Camp of Boone.
As well as being a caring and loving mother to her children Melanie’s joy was to care for her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, helping to raise them. She also helped raise two other non-related children from infants.
She was interested in the history of her ancestry; she did a lot of research along with other family members and was able to find out a lot of information about the family. She enjoyed doing this and had a large collection of books that were filled with family history.
She was an organ donor and was able to give the gift of life to someone in need. She received 3 donor kidneys herself and this was her way of giving back.
She endured a lot of health issues as a child and into adulthood but never once gave up on herself. She always drew from her faith in God to be strong.
She was a courageous woman who was loved and admired by her family; she will live on in our hearts.
