BOONE, Iowa—A service and celebration of life have been set for Heather Pollard Bowers, age 53, of Southlake, Texas. Local service will be held July 25 at 1:30 pm at the First Baptist Church of Boone followed by a 3:00 pm celebration of life at the 1868 Farmhouse located at 1411 160th Street Boone.
Heather Pollard Bowers had her heart’s desire fulfilled on July 14, 2021, as she traveled into the presence of her Lord Jesus Christ. Her last few days were filled with peace, surrounded by family and friends as she anticipated her greatest journey. All the while, she continued to encourage and love those around her, as if cancer had never entered her body.
Heather was born July 2, 1968, in Des Moines, Iowa. Her parents were Benjamin Allen Pollard and Colleen (Williams) Pollard. Heather grew up in Ankeny, Iowa, before moving to Boone where she attended Boone High School. Heather moved to Iowa City and became a Hawkeye through and through. She was an active member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She participated in the University of Iowa’s marching band, pep band, and Alumni band — blasting the Iowa Fight Song on her trumpet with gusto and pride for her beloved Hawkeyes. After college, she moved to the Dallas area and developed a deep and wide network of friendships that she nurtured through the rest of her life. Heather married the love of her life, Mike Bowers, in October of 2011. Mike brought so much joy and fulfillment to Heather’s life. He was a true partner — in front of her leading the way, behind her encouraging her forward, and beside her enjoying her company.
Heather’s work life was balanced with her joy of exploring the world through travel and photography. With a camera in her hand, and often with friends by her side, she made nearly annual trips abroad, exploring Australia, Asia, Europe, and Africa. She documented the adventures through her incredible photography, creating artwork enjoyed by family, friends, and clients for years to come. Travel took on an additional meaning for her following 1994 when she gave her life to Christ. It allowed her to deepen her walk with the Lord, sharing God’s love through mission trips to Russia, Spain, and Kenya. She also followed the Apostles’ footsteps around the Mediterranean and aided in archeological digs on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Later, with great joy Heather introduced her nieces and nephews to her passion for travel. The results were special trips to New York and Paris, with plans for many more. Her provision will allow for the trips she was unable to take.
Heather was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Allen Pollard; father-in-law, William Bowers; grandparents, Hans and Mary Ellen Williams, and Benjamin and Mildred Pollard.
Heather is survived by her loving husband, Mike Bowers; stepsons, William and Wesley Bowers; mother, Colleen (Larry) Anderson; mother-in-law, Vianne Bowers; sister, Holly (Todd) Christensen; brother Hans (Amy) Pollard; nephews, Jack Christensen and Henry Pollard; nieces, Catherine Pollard, and Julia and Jane Christensen; stepsiblings, Melissa Spencer, Matthew Anderson, and Meredith VanHouten; and her birth parents and siblings, Charles Olmsted; Donna Warner; brother, Patrick (Jen) Quigley; sisters, Lisa A.
