BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements are being planned for 100 year old Laverne Vaughan of Boone, Iowa. She passed away at The Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone on Friday, July 30th, 2021. Laverne was born on December 12th, 1920 in Chicago Illinois to Frank and Meta Wienold. She married John Lord Vaughan of Homewood, Illinois on May 4th, 1946. They lived on the Vaughan Farm in Homewood and raised 4 children. John and Laverne ran a Sod Business on the farm until John passed in 1968. Laverne moved to Boone, Iowa in 1973. She was on the Board of Directors of the Ericson Public Library and the Boone County Family YMCA. She was an active member of PEO Iowa Chapter NO into her mid-90s. She loved traveling the United States, Europe and especially England. She enjoyed flower gardening, playing Bridge with friends and was an avid reader. She was very proud of her family.
Survivors include her four children; John (Mary) Vaughan Jr. of Springfield, MO.; Linda Jenny of Stratford; Roger (Lois) Vaughan of Palm Harbor, FL.; and Marilyn (Craig) Johnson of Manchester. She had five grandchildren Lee (Ellen) Johnson of Bremen, GA., Dr. Lindsey Jenny of Mason, MI.; Dr. Ann Johnson of German Valley, Il., Benjamin Johnson of Davenport and Ashley Vaughan of Jacksonville, Fl.; and four great granddaughters Hallie, Maddie, Brylie and Josie Johnson of Bremen, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, her brother, William Wienold, her sister Margeret Maddams and her son-in-law Allen Jenny.
