BOONE, Iowa—With great sadness we announce the passing of Sandie L. Penberthy, age 69, on Saturday, August 14, 2021, in her home due to complications of pneumonia.
She was born January 8, 1952, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, the daughter of Mary (Warner) and Laddie Gregurich. She graduated from Antigo High School in Antigo, Wisconsin, and was united in marriage to Bryan Penberthy in 1979. They lived in Chicago briefly, before settling in Boone, Iowa.
Sandie was a devoted mother and generous grandmother, always putting those she loved first. She was an active member of the Open Bible Church, and her strong faith in God guided her in everything she did throughout her life. She worked as a respiratory therapist and ward clerk at the Boone County Hospital before retiring and continued helping those in need for the rest of her life. She was selfless and loved everyone, no matter whether you were family or a friend.
She will be remembered for her contagious laughter and her warm, affectionate hugs. Sandie’s beautiful flower garden, amazing Christmas displays, and wonderful Easter celebrations will live on in the hearts of her children and grandchildren forever. We will miss her homemade bags of Chex Mix and sugar cookies at Christmas and how enthusiastically she rooted for the Packers and the Bison during the football season.
Sandie is survived by her husband, Bryan; her son, Steve (Molly) Penberthy; her daughter, Brandy Percival; her son, Adam Penberthy; four grandchildren: Stephon, Asani, Anisa, Alex; six brothers, Dave (Kathy) Gregurich, Tim (Maureen) Gregurich, Paul (Charlene) Gregurich, Tom (Bonnie) Gregurich, Tony (Joann) Gregurich, and Joe Gregurich; one sister, Melissa (Ron) Skorie.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Diane Swanson.
A celebration of Sandie’s life will be 11:00 AM Friday, August 20, 2021, at the Open Bible Church in Boone, followed by a luncheon where the family will greet friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family, which will be used to honor one of Sandie’s favorite charities, they may be sent to the Schroeder- Reimers Memorial Chapel c/o Sandie Penberthy family.
