BOONE, Iowa—KWBG News has received an announcement from Annie Wallert about her candidacy for the Boone City Council At Large seat in the November 2nd Municipal Election:
I am announcing my run for Boone City Council At-Large. I would like to assure everyone that I am a person that can back up what I say I want to accomplish.
Since moving to Boone seven years ago from Carroll I have helped our homeless population by founding a nonprofit called Boone Homeless Fund. I do not take a wage for doing it as I feel you do not need to be compensated for doing the right thing to better someone else’s life.
I fully support all of our responders which include but is not limited to our Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, and the fire Department. To date I have volunteered to help raise money for Shop With a Cop which has come to $3,000.00 being donated so the children that are in need can have a Christmas in our great community.
With the founding of Boone Homeless Fund helping others succeed has always been my passion. With this in mind I would love the opportunity to also help our small businesses thrive and inspire more businesses to come to Boone. The more businesses we have, the more they are successful, the lower our taxes will be.
I am able to fundraise, write grants, be awarded the amounts I have requested and do think this would be a great asset to have for the city. This would also benefit the people of Boone because the more grant money we are able to obtain will lower the bond amount that will be needed.
Experience does matter when it comes to doing what is best for the city and the people. This leads us to the founding of Boone Homeless Fund on October 3rd of 2019. When reviewing policies I had to look at what would be best for the people when I incorporated the nonprofit. It was my opinion from the information I collected that I had to change some things if we really wanted to attempt to end homelessness. Upon changing a few things we have been able to successfully take 47 homeless individuals, Veterans, and families off our streets and help them with safe, affordable, and permanent housing. This is 47 off our streets since October 3rd, 2019! Providing the safe affordable, and permanent housing has been made possible by donations, being able to write successful grants, fundraising, and never giving up on the change we needed to happen.
I would like the opportunity to work for the people and the City of Boone to make it a better place for everyone. I am a person that does come up with a plan, sees it through, and will never try to pass it on to someone else to finish. I am a person that when I set my goals I do achieve them.
I am looking forward to talking to the voters and having some great community discussions.
