BOONE, Iowa—Scott Zeitler is a candidate for the Boone City Council in the City’s 5th Ward. Zeitler has released this statement about his candidacy:
I was born and raised in Iowa, attended Iowa State University, and have enjoyed living in Boone for 8 years. I have worked as a professional painter for 25 years, enjoy spending time with my brother and six nieces and nephews, and exploring all that Boone and the surrounding area has to offer. While I do not have years of experience serving on boards or committees, I have always had an interest in local politics, and a desire to serve my community.
I am a down to earth kind of guy. While I appreciate “big ideas,” many times there is a simple solution to a problem, and that simple solution can have a significant impact on our citizens’ daily lives. I believe in responsive, transparent city government. The city should fulfill its obligation to maintain and upgrade our aging infrastructure, water, sewer, and streets as well as improve the safety and walkability of our city through the sidewalk incentive program and improve the visibility and signage at crosswalks. I would like to improve access to one of Boone’s greatest assets, our city parks, and would push for the creation of a plan for dedicated bicycle routes across the city to safely connect our parks, schools, and the downtown business district. I am open to discussing modifications to our city zoning codes to allow for slightly higher density housing and low impact businesses that serve the needs of the neighborhood.
In short, I believe in the “untapped” potential of Boone and our greatest resource, our citizens. As a council member, I will work to improve the daily lives of all our citizens, because sometimes the little things are the big things. I respectfully ask for your vote in November and welcome your questions.
