The Antiques of Iowa softball team won the World Championship in the 60 AA division at the Senior Softball USA World Championships in Las Vegas on September 16-19. Over 650 teams participated in the World Championships held in the Las Vegas area.
The Antiques are made up of players, all over the age of 60, from across eastern Iowa – centered primarily around the Iowa City area but with players coming from Bettendorf in the east and as far west as Urbandale.
The Antiques won their division with an 8-1 record. There were 16 other teams from across the United States competing for the title of World Champion in their division. The Antiques defeated teams from California, Nevada, Missouri, Hawaii and Oklahoma on their way to the championship. Over the nine games they scored 195 runs while holding their opponents to only 124.
The Antiques began playing together 12 years ago. Eight players from that team that began playing in the 50-year-old division are still active on the current squad.
This is the second World Championship for the Antiques. Five years ago they won the 55 AA division
