BOONE, Iowa—Many are already aware that Boone City Councilmember Holly Stecker is running for Mayor in Boone. Her campaign announcement was released a couple of weeks ago:
It is with great pride and excitement that I write to you all today to announce my candidacy for Mayor of Boone in the upcoming election on November 2nd.
When I was elected to city council, my campaign was founded upon the belief that strong communities are built by coming together to make spaces and places for families to thrive, businesses to grow, and opportunities for individuals to express their creativity and community pride.
Just as we needed new ideas to bring about change on council then, it is time for a fresh perspective in the mayor’s office now.
Over the past four years, I have worked relentlessly toward strengthening our city through relationship building, hiring the best people for key positions, and endeavoring to unite our local businesses and community organizations to work toward shared goals. I take great pride in the progress we have made toward these plans through the establishment of the Boone Arts Commission and the reinvigoration of the Boone County Chamber of Commerce, both of which I have had the privilege of leading over the past year. But, the work is not over. Learning to pivot into a post-pandemic economy and navigate the recovery from an intense few years is the challenge we now face together.
As your mayor, Boone’s downtown revitalization and enhancement will be the cornerstone of my daily work. I will continue to improve upon our beautiful city parks and strengthen our public services. Most significantly, I will prioritize the city’s resources and budget to reflect the values of all our citizens.
Being a mother, small business owner, city council member, and community board member, have all given me the tools and experiences needed to lead as mayor. I will ensure that the initiatives we have started are seen through, like further empowering the Boone Arts Commission, building a long-awaited wellness center, and bringing more community events like First Thursday’s to our business district. Importantly, in doing so, our office will carry out this work in a way that dignifies partnership, collaboration, and goodwill toward others.
Thank you for standing with me these last four years. With your continued support, we can make a difference together.
I humbly ask for your vote for me and my fresh perspective to the mayor’s office.
