BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for 57 year old Donald Clifford Romig II of Boone, Iowa. He died of complications of lung cancer on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, AZ, with his family by his side.
Don was born on July 10, 1964 in Gary, IN, the son of Donald Clifford and Inez Costa (Souza) Romig. The Romig family moved to Sioux City, IA, where Don grew up and graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1982. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1986. Following graduation, he studied vigorously to pass his CPA exam and did so on his first attempt! Don moved to Johnston and began working in the accounting department at Gentry Management Service in Clive, where he was quickly moved into managing all of their residential and commercial properties.
Don was united in marriage with Brenda Brakel on November 19, 1992 in West Des Moines. In 2001, the Romig Family moved to Boone and began managing their own properties. Don, Brenda, and their two children managed rental properties until his passing. Don was an active member of the Boone community, always lending a hand. He volunteered and donated to many causes and organizations.
Don was a proud family man! He loved his family very much. Never missing an event of his children’s. He coached Little League for his kids and his hobbies often included his family, such as hunting with his son and traveling and golfing with the whole family.
Don had a passion to travel but Maui, HI, was his favorite spot! He loved the outdoors and was quite the athlete. Don completed triathlons, 2 Iron Mans, and ran the Boston Marathon. Don was an avid Cyclone Football fan.
Don was preceded in death by his parents in 2018. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Brenda; children, Brett and Carlie (fiancé, Cody Good), all of Boone; sisters, Rebecca (Jerry) Justin and Donna (Terry) Walter; brother, Doug (Deana) Romig; mother-in-law, Mary Lou Brakel; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 until 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the Fareway Conference Center at the Cobblestone Inn & Suites in Boone, with a Memorial Service beginning at 6:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
