BOONE, Iowa—The family of Loren R. Tungesvik has established a scholarship in his memory to support Boone High School students pursuing a career in agriculture. Loren was a resident of Boone for more than twenty years and both of his children, Kia and Jerad, graduated from Boone High School. Loren’s passion in life was farming his family’s century farm along with wife Mary Jo.
Unfortunately, Loren was killed in a mowing accident on the farm in June 2019. The family has decided to honor Loren with a memorial scholarship in his name. According to Loren’s wife Mary Jo, “This scholarship is being established as a way to honor his legacy and encourage others to love the land and agriculture as much as he did.”
The LR Tungesvik Ag Scholarship will be awarded annually to one graduating high school senior at Boone who is an active member of the FFA Chapter. Additionally, applicants must be pursuing a two or four year degree in an Agricultural major at a post-secondary institution in Iowa. The application deadline is April 10, 2021. The scholarship application is available in the Boone High School Counseling office or here.
