BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for 69 year old Sheila Jo (Borich) Riker Augustine of Boone, Iowa. She died on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Mary Greeley Medical Center after a battle with cancer and complications of pneumonia and kidney failure.
Sheila was born to Joseph and Bernice (Carver) Borich on December 19, 1951 in Boone. She graduated from Boone High School in 1970 and continued her education at DMACC.
Sheila was a stay-at-home mother to her two children, until they were raised. That is when she began working for the USDA in Ames, where she worked for 18 years before retirement.
Sheila was united in marriage with Jerry Augustine on March 20, 2008 at their home on Boone Street.
Sheila and Jerry loved to travel. The couple traveled overseas and on cruises often, including Alaska, Hawaii, Scotland, England, Germany, Rome twice and the Mexican Riviera twice! She also enjoyed trips around the continental U.S. such as the Grand Canyon. Sheila also had a passion for photographing wildlife especially capturing wild flowers. One of her favorite spots was the Ledges. She took up many other hobbies over the years, such as making jewelry for a stint of time.
Sheila was a member of Sacred Heart Church, where she was in a prayer group and helped with the faith sharing group.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Jerry of Boone; daughter, Melieh Desher of Boone; son, John Ethan Riker of Ames; granddaughter, Madisen Desher; sister, Sabra (Paul) Donorovich; along with many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held at a later date in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Sacred Heart Church.
