OGDEN, Iowa—Funeral arrangements are set for 85 year old Arthur Raymond Lestina of Ogden, Iowa. He died on Monday, November 29, 2021 at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella.
Art was born on February 29, 1936 in Boone, the son of Joseph and Ruth C. (Toepher) Lestina. He graduated from Luther High School in 1954. Art continued his education in the School of Hard Knocks as he began working. He was a hog farmer, sold horses, baled hay and so much more. Art had a talent for trading livestock.
Art was active in many horse associations, including American Quarter Horse Association, Appaloosa Horse Club, Pony Express, IASC Saddle Club, and many more. Art held shows at his home in Ogden for the local saddle clubs. He enjoyed sales and auctions, if it was for horses or if it was a farm sale. Art’s favorite horse was a palomino.
Art was united in marriage with Marcella “Marcy” Gilliam on March 11, 1956 in Boone. From this union were four children, Jim, Kirk, Todd and Teresa.
Art was only 21 ½ years old as he was born on a leap year, and he still felt like he was 21 in spirit.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marcy in 2014; son, Kirk Allen Lestina; and brothers, George and Richard. He is survived by his sons, Jimmy Lestina of Redfield and Todd Lestina of Stratford; daughter, Teresa (Donnie) Storm of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Fallon (LeRoy) Moore, Sean Lestina, Nathan (Chelsie) Lestina, Justin Lestina, Jacob Lestina and Ty Allen Storm; great grandchildren, Kollin and Tucker Moore and Alivia Lestina; and sister, Lila (Darryl) Kruse of Boone.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 3, 2021 at the Squire Boone Cemetery, south of Boone.
