Eugene L. Mackey

BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for Eugene L. Mackey, son of Clark and Alma (Manny) Mackey was born on July 7, 1928 in Boone, Iowa.  He passed away at his home in Boone, Iowa on December 21, 2021 at the age of 93 years.

On July 18, 1948, he was united in marriage to Donna Marie Schroeder at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa, and they were blessed with 52 years together.  Eugene received his education from the Stanhope School where he graduated with the Class of 1947.  He was employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation in Boone, Jefferson, Ogden, Ames, and Waterloo for a total of 30 years, until he retired in 1992.

Eugene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa.  He was very proud of the Mackey family farm being designated as a Century Farm.  He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna; a brother, Milford Mackey; and a stillborn son, Richard.  He is survived by two sons and a daughter:  Gary (Pat) Mackey of Boone, IA, LaDonna (Dave) Osborn of Boone, IA, and Dan (Ali) Mackey of Clear Lake, IA; eight grandchildren:  Darlene (Mark) Rockenbach of St. Charles, MO, Douglas Osborn of Boone, IA, Theresa (Parrish) Skrien of Nicollet, MN, Julie (Joe) Hull of Boone, IA, Erin (Josh) Craig of Waukee, IA, Sarah (Curt) Talken of Merriam, KS, Greg (Kim) Mackey of Stanhope, IA, and Marcus (Gabrielle) Mackey of Rochester, MN; eleven great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Margaret Mackey of Guttenberg, IA; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Eugene’s family.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone, Iowa.  Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home is assisting the family.  Online condolences may be left at www.schroederfuneral.com.
