BOONE, Iowa—Charles “Ted” Hora, age 96, of Boone, Iowa, a proud WWII Army veteran, passed away January 10, 2022, at Westhaven Community Retirement Home in Boone.www.schroedermemorialchapel.com. Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets is in charge of arrangements.
Following Ted’s wishes, his remains have been cremated. The family will host a visitation at Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone on Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Boone on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor John Pea officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard will be in Linwood Park Cemetery. Ted was born in Boone on August 3, 1925, the son of Gertrude and Thomas Hora. He graduated from Boone High School and then volunteered for military service on July 7, 1943, enlisting into the United States Army Air Corps where he trained and served on the B-24 Liberator “Holms Rocket” as a radio operator mechanic and door gunner. Ted was discharged on March 11, 1946 and returned to Boone, Iowa where he married Patricia Jean Nickerson on October 31, 1948, and together, raised four boys. Ted worked for the railroad, Kruse Clothing and re-enlisted into the Iowa Army National Guard and transitioned to a full-time position with the National Guards’ dual status technician program. Ted retired as a Master Sergeant on August 3, 1985 with a total of 42 years of military service. Ted’s passion was spending quality time with his wife Pat and raising his four boys to respect family, Nation and God. He was committed to the military, an avid outdoorsman and loved planting a large garden every Spring and harvesting walnuts in the Fall. He looked forward to picnics in McHose Park, worship at the First Presbyterian Church, family gatherings and Sunday dinner, and mentoring his young boys. Ted is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and his wife Pat. He is survived by his four sons, Charles “Ted” Hora II (Linda) of Boone, Randy (Diane) Hora of Valrico, Florida, Tom (Nancy) Hora of Polk City, Iowa and Brett (Lisa) Hora of Granger, Iowa; 13 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren, Natalie (Charles) Wulfsen and children Clara (Gabe), Elizabeth and Grant, Amber Hora and son Jackson, Angela (Jason) Mathiasen and children Emmett, Jacob, Genevieve, and Amandine, Emily (Eric) Caswell and children Bridgett and Lydia, Phillip (Amy) Hora and children Parker and Logan, Melissa (Mike) Willard and children Sam and Tyler, Amanda Young and children Paige and Grant, Katy (John) Schwering and children Bo and Mila, Allison Hora, John (Lindsay) Hora and children Marley and Remy, Jacob Hora, and Conner Hanke and Hannah Hanke.
