Lois R. Ross

BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements are set for Lois Ruth (Pritchard) Ross, age 91 of Boone, Iowa. She died peacefully at the Hearth Stone Memory Care Unit at the Eastern Star Masonic Home.

Lois was born the daughter of Allie and Maggie (Crouse) Pritchard on September 26, 1930 at the family home in Luther. She grew up in Council Bluffs until moving back to the Boone area when she was 17. She was a 1948 Boone High School graduate.

Lois was united in marriage with Dale H. Ross in June of 1948. From this union were two daughters, Michele and Marti. Dale passed away in 1973.

Lois was later united in marriage with William H. Johnston in 1978. Bill passed away in 1986.

Lois worked at the Department of Transportation as a bookkeeper for a number of years, retiring in 1995.

Lois was a member of the Purple Hat Society, Boone Elks Lodge No. 2884 and a volunteer for the Boone County Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing; Sewing countless dance costumes over the years. Lois loved to go dancing with friends at Lake Robbins Ballroom in Woodward and also enjoyed reading a good book.

In 2006, Lois moved in with her daughter, Marti. Lois enjoyed visits from the great grandkids (even if they got away with “way too much”). She was always faithful to getting her hair done every Wednesday at The Mirror Image.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Dale Ross and Bill Johnston; daughter, Michele D. Friess in 2019; grandson, Chadler; brothers, Ray Pritchard, Ernie Pritchard, Albert Pritchard, Elmer Pritchard; and sister Ruby M. Foes.

She is survived by her daughter, Marti (Charles) Pepples of Boone; grandchildren, Kim (Tony) Destro, Brianne (George) Allen, Andrew (Kristen) Pepples, Tori Phillips (Brett) and Lesli (Brad) Vote; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Eddie Pritchard of Cedar Falls; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Hearth Stone Memory Care Unit at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone. The staff at Hearth Stone took wonderful care of Lois over the last year.
