Norman LaFollette

BOONE, Iowa—Norman Theo LaFollette, 90, of Boone, Iowa passed away at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone on Thursday, February 17, 2022. He had been a resident at Eastern Star since August of 2018. Norman was born on June 13, 1931 in Oskaloosa, Iowa the son of Harry D. LaFollette and Wilma J. (Dieleman) LaFollette.

On September 24, 1960, Norman married Shirley F. Jacobson at the Evangelical Free Church in Clinton, Iowa. He was educated in Indianola, and Magnolia, Iowa. Norman then enlisted in the United States Air Force in September of 1950. He served in Korea as an MP during the Korean conflict. After his honorable discharge in September of 1954, he worked with his father as a surveyor in western Iowa. In 1955, his family moved to Boone. Norman started working at John Deere in Ankeny on June 25, 1956, where he worked for 31 years, retiring on August 31, 1987.

He loved all things outdoors: hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and planting trees. We enjoyed many family adventures growing up. He loved woodworking and anything working with his hands. A favorite pastime was attending all of the activities of the grandkids. He never missed a ball game, concert or track meet.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Wilma LaFollette, two brothers Wayne and De Lane LaFollette, and grandson, Jack LaFollette.

Survivors include his wife Shirley of Boone; two daughters: Corinne LaFollette of Stratford, IA, and Donna (Larry) Sharer of Jewell, IA; two sons: Eliot of Boone, IA, and Lorin (Kate) of Boone, IA; grandson Sam LaFollette of Ames, IA, and granddaughter Maren LaFollette of West Des Moines, IA, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, 609 7th Street, Boone, IA. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home. Interment will be at Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone, IA, with Military Honors by the Boone Veterans Council.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Nation Wild Turkey Federation, Scenic Valley Chapter.
