BOONE, Iowa—Leonard “Junior” Madden, Jr., age 92, of Boone, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Accura Healthcare of Ogden.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Private family interment will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery.
Born on July 26, 1929 in Boone, Junior was the son of Leonard, Sr. and Sadie (Craven) Madden.
Junior drove a semi for Fareway Grocery Stores for over 30 years. He retired more than once and always ended up going back part-time as he enjoyed it so much. Junior also took time to help farmers around Boone County during harvest. When he wasn’t doing that, Junior was baling large bales of hay all over the Boone area. He did this up until his stroke at the age of 87. Junior worked hard to battle back from his stroke and made it back home and was able to remain at home for five years.
Junior was an Iowa Hawkeye fan but was proud of his son-in-law and both grandkids and their spouses graduating from Iowa State University. He cheered for the Green Bay Packers unless they were playing the Kansas City Chiefs. He enjoyed watching his grandkids in all of their activities throughout their schooling and up until this year, was able to proudly watch his grandson coach at the high school level for Greene County. Junior raised a lot of horses and enjoyed trail riding, especially the trips to South Dakota. He also enjoyed gardening and loved camping and his pontoon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan; a daughter, Vicki; his parents, Leonard, Sr. and Sadie; his mother and father-in-law, Claude and Gertie Keech; a brother, Larry; a sister-in-law, Diane; and a brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Karen Keech.
Junior is survived by his wife, Sandy; a daughter, Wendy and son-in-law, Jim Duncan; son-in-law, John Meadows; grandson, Caden (Lindsey) Duncan, granddaughter, Cally (Nick) Carlson, grandson, Aaron (April) Hamilton; great-grandsons, Aidan, Aleck, and Ashton Hamilton, and Braxton Duncan; nieces and nephews, Kevin (Diana) Keech, Kent (Karen) Keech, Julie Keech, Jim (Becky) Madden, Kim (Bob) Ohge, Barb (Paul) Peterson, and Jon Madden; and many great-nieces and nephews.
