BOONE, Iowa—Lorraine Beatrice (Long) McVicker, age 90 of Boone and the Westhaven Community, died on Friday, March 18, 2022.
Lorraine was born in Webster City on September 19, 1931, the daughter of Fred and Mable (Forsberg) Long. She was raised in Stanhope, graduating high school in 1949.
On November 12, 1950, Lorraine was united in marriage with Marvin “Jim” McVicker at the Methodist Church in Stanhope. Shortly after they wed, the couple moved to Boone.
Lorraine worked as at Citizens National Bank until 1981 then as a bookkeeper at Brody Trucking until the company closed. Lorraine worked at the HyVee Bakery for several years until retiring in 2009.
Lorraine was the definition of Mom. The McVicker’s door was never locked and all were welcome! There were always sweets on the counter for everyone to help themselves; She was a wonderful baker. Lorraine was content and genuine, always giving out compliments to others.
Lorraine was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Boone, American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary. She ran BINGO for many years but did not care to play. Lorraine and Jim enjoyed square-dancing, camping and bowling league. Lorraine also enjoyed needle pointing and making ceramic dolls. She was an avid Cardinals Baseball fan.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim in 2015; daughter-in-law, Jean McVicker; infant brother, Dale Leon Long; and brother, Larry Long.
She is survived by her children, Jim McVicker of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Janice (Mark) Swedlund of Fort Meyers, FL, Julie (Tim) Herrstrom of Luther and Jerry (Cindy) McVicker of Ames; 9 grandchildren, Matthew (Stacy) McVicker, Danielle (Joel) Murphy, Haley Swedlund (Malte Lierl), Mallory (Ryan) Riggs, Nic (Lisa) McVicker, Abby McVicker, Bailey (Walker) Erskine, Troy (Tammy) Kruse and Michelle (Scott) Latterell; 18 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; sister, Lois Danielson of Ellsworth; brother, Lonnie (Sandra) Long; sister-in-law, Joyce McVicker; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Boone. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of service. Inurnment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary or the VFW Auxiliary.
