Boone A&M FFA Chapter State FFA Convention Highlights

BOONE, Iowa—26 members of the Boone A&M FFA Chapter at Boone High School attended the 94th Iowa FFA Leadership Conference on April 11-12, 2022 at Iowa State University in Ames.

Six members from Boone received their Iowa FFA Degree including: Chase Anderson, Karli Herrstrom, Nathan Lynch, Trent Overturf, Megan Stern, Trysten Ward. The Iowa FFA Degree is the highest degree that can be bestowed upon an FFA member by the Iowa FFA Association each year. Only 5% of the FFA members in Iowa receive the degree each year.

Bria Schwind from the Boone A&M FFA Chapter was the state winner for the Veterinary Science Ag Proficiency Award. Bria has logged 153 combined hours at Swiss Farms Veterinary and Fairview Veterinary. Schwind has learned skills like vaccinating, ultrasounding, chute work, suturing, and assisting veterinarians. She plans to attend DMACC with dual enrollment in Iowa State for biology. Schwind plans to transfer to Iowa State University majoring in Animal Science Pre-Veterinary Medicine.

The Iowa FFA Ag Broadcasting Leadership Event was held at the Iowa State Center, Ames, on Monday, April 11, 2022 with the top twelve individuals participating in this year’s Leadership Development Event (LDE). The second place individual for the event was Chase Anderson from the Boone A&M FFA Chapter. Members participating in this event present a five-minute broadcast as if they were a farm director or reporter for a radio station. This event is intended to foster an understanding and create an interest in the field of broadcast journalism.

The Iowa FFA Job Interview Leadership Event was held at the Iowa State Center, Ames, on Monday, April 11, 2022 with the top twelve individuals  participating in this year’s Leadership Development Event (LDE). Bria Schwind from the Boone A&M FFA Chapter received a silver rating as the 4th place individual. Members participating in the Job Interview Leadership Development Event had to demonstrate their ability in filling out a job application form, writing a letter of application, preparing a resume, interviewing properly, answering questions clearly, and presenting the proper impression.

The Iowa FFA Chapter Website Leadership Event was held at the Iowa State Center, Ames, on Monday, April 11, 2022 with the top twelve chapters participating in this year’s Leadership Development Event (LDE). Megan Stern from the Boone A&M FFA Chapter received a silver rating. This event is designed to encourage development of a website to promote the local FFA chapter. It is designed to stimulate the technological implementation of computer skills and web page design.
