BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for Nicholas Andrew Melton, 35, of Boone, Iowa. He passed away at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Monday, April 18, 2022.
Nick was born on August 5, 1986 in Ames, Iowa, the son of Robert and Martha (Sparks) Melton, the third of seven children. He attended the Boone Evangelical Free Church as a youth. Nick went to Awana’s youth group and on several mission trips. He was part of the Luther Livewires in 4-H. Nick loved playing flag football and being on the swim team. During high school, Nick played football and was on the wrestling team. He had many high school sporting achievements. Nick was home-schooled from 1st grade to graduation. After high school, he attended college, earning his Bachelor’s Degree.
SFC Nicholas Melton joined the Army in January of 2007. Upon completing basic training, Airborne training and the Ranger Indoctrination Program, he was assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment, 3rd Ranger Battalion. His first deployment was to Iraq, followed by six more deployment to Afghanistan. During his service, his top awards were the Bronze Star Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and two Army Commendation Medals. Nick attended many schools while in the Army, his top schools were Jumpmaster, Combat Driver, Air Assault, and Ranger Instructor. Rangers Lead the Way!
Nick is survived by his mother Marti Melton-Streeter; stepfather Mark Streeter; brothers: Robert Melton, Joe (Jami) Melton, Sam Melton, Alex Melton, and Jacob Melton; sister Elizabeth “Sis” (Max) O’ Saurus; nephews: Gunner, Tobie, Vincent, Oliver, Avery, and Kinnick; nieces: Lana, Hazel, and Ivy; many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and former spouse Hanna Lynn Lewis (Melton).
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Boone Area Humane Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone. Burial with Military Honors provided by the Camp Dodge Funeral Honor Guard and the Boone Veterans Council will be at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone following the funeral service. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022 at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, 609 7th Street, Boone.
