DMACC Boone Campus Commencement Friday

·         Liberal Arts Student Alexis Lander of Onawa Will Welcome Family and Friends to the Graduation Ceremony

·         Nearly 200 Boone Campus Students Will Graduate this Spring

BOONE, Iowa—The 94th DMACC Boone Campus Commencement will take place at 10 a.m., Friday, May 6 in the Boone Campus Gymnasium.  Nearly 200 Boone Campus students will graduate this spring.  A reception will follow immediately after the commencement in the L.W. Courter Center.

DMACC Boone Campus Liberal Arts student Alexis Lander of Onawa will welcome family and friends to the graduation ceremony.  She is an Honor student and in the DMACC Honor program and is a member of the DMACC softball team.

DMACC Vice President of Enrollment Services and Student Success, Shelli Allen, will deliver the commencement address.

Allen earned a B.A. in English from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, a M.A. in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies from the University of Iowa and completed her doctoral coursework in Community College Leadership from the University of Missouri–St. Louis.

Allen started her Student Development career as Director of Multicultural Programming at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. She then took on the role of Career Services Advisor at Metropolitan Community College (MCC) and spent the next 17 years working her way through the ranks to finally become Dean of Student Development & Enrollment Management.

Allen was active in the early years of the charter school movement in Kansas City, serving on the board for Gordon Parks Elementary, as well as a founding board member for Crossroads Academy Charter Schools in Kansas City.  She spent several years as a Big Sister in a program dedicated to graduates in receipt of the Ewing Kauffman Scholarship, a scholarship program that allowed all students who graduated from Westport High School to attend the college or university of their choice.

“I believe in the power of public education, and I have dedicated my career to the community college mission,” Allen said.

Allen and her long-time partner, Bradley, live in Ankeny with their two dogs, Jack and Moose.

DMACC Boone Campus Provost Drew Nelson will preside over the commencement. A nursing pinning ceremony will take place in the Boone Campus Gymnasium following the commencement.
