Robert Malone

BOONE, Iowa—Robert “Bugsy” Eugene Malone, age 82 of Boone, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 9, 2022 at his home.

Robert was born on May 13, 1939 in Ironton, OH, the son of Nicklous and Louise (Pancake) Malone. He attended Whitwell Grade School and was a 1957 Ironton High School graduate. He briefly attended Ohio Branch College before being drafted into the US Army in June of 1957 for the Vietnam War, serving a mandatory 6 months.

Robert enlisted in the US Navy in April of 1960. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA until his honorable discharge on July 20, 1961. He reenlisted on July 21, 1961 on board for six years under the “STAR” Program.

Robert was united in marriage with Kristy Olerich Anderson on December 31, 1984 in Boone.

Robert was a conductor for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Kansas City and Boone. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 2006.

Robert enjoyed reading and watching sports, especially football on Sundays. He was an Ohio State Buckeyes, Kansas City Chiefs and KU Jayhawks Fan. He would enjoy watching the games with his dogs on his lap and a bowl of popcorn to share. Robert loved a good meal and everything was better with saltine crackers. He also cherished conversations and time shared with his grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Travis Anderson; and siblings, Jack Malone, Don Malone, Clarence Malone and Joann Dyer.

He is survived by his wife, Kristy; daughter, Carrie (Jim) Halvorson of Kansas City; stepsons, Dustin Anderson and Tracy (Becca) Anderson, all of Boone; grandchildren, Aidan and Jena Halvorson, Ian and Avery Anderson and Wyatt Anderson.

A Private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
