BOONE, Iowa—A smoke detector did what it was supposed to do early Friday morning. The Boone Fire Department was called to a residence in the 13-hundred block of Marshall Street shortly after 3:00 a.m. when the detector went off, woke the resident who called. Fire fighters were able to quickly handle the source of smoke. The damage was minimal, except for smoke, which had to be ventilated. Fortunately, no one was displaced. Boone Police and Boone County Sheriff’s Department had been called to assist with traffic.
