Ken Sadler

BOONE, Iowa—Kenneth E. Sadler, 75 of Story City and formerly of Coralville, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022 at Bethany Life in Story City.

Ken was born on May 29, 1947 at the Boone County Hospital, the second of five children of Merle W. and Frances (Friest) Sadler. He graduated from Boone High School in 1965. Ken continued his education at AIB College of Business in Des Moines, earning many additional credits.

Ken worked in the Business Office at West High School in Iowa City for many years. He was an active part of the Iowa City West community, taking photos of sporting events and traveling with the show choir. He helped backstage with shows as a music tech.

He later went to Southeastern Academy in Kissimmee, FL and began working for Shorts Travel Management in Iowa City as well as a hobby shop where he found his new hobbies.

Ken loved trains and models. He was an avid reader, especially enjoying World War and Civil War history. Ken came from a musical family; he had an impressive collection of CDs and records. One of Ken’s favorite things was spending time with family, always enjoying playing with his nieces and nephews.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Fran. He is survived by his siblings, Sharon (Jack) Ver Helst of Boone, Debbie (Dennis) Mikesell of Clear Lake, Dave (Lilo) Sadler and Tim Sadler, all of Boone; nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, Brian Ver Helst, Jeff (Gayle) Ver Helst and their children, Ethan and Katelyn, Wendy (CJ) Brown and their children, Chelbie, Breanna and Myley, Eric Ver Helst, Christina Sadler, Amanda (Dustin) Staade and their children, Emmett and Sabrina and Justin Mikesell.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. Friends may call from 1:30 P.M. until time of service. Inurnment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family for later designation.
