BOONE, Iowa—Jay “Brad” Bradford Beckett, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Accura Healthcare of Ogden, Iowa.
Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2022 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at 6th and Marshall Streets in Boone, Iowa. Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Bass Point Cemetery with Pastor Janelle Bloem officiating. Burial will be in the Bass Point Cemetery.
Born on April 17, 1942 in Boone, Brad was the son of Lawrence and Josephine (Eckley) Beckett. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Boone High School in 1960.
Brad was united in marriage to Pamela Pritchard on November 11, 1961 at First Baptist Church in Boone. He worked for Iowa State University for 46 years as an Animal Caregiver at the Swine Research Lab. He was a true farmer and had a deep love for horses and the land.
Family was very important to Brad. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed connecting with them through his passion for horses. Brad was a member of the Iowa Quarter Horse Association, American Quarter Horse Association, and Iowa Associated Saddle Club. He was also a member of West Central Coop (now Landus), Farm Bureau, where he served on the board, and First Baptist Church.
Brad loved Christmas. He made his own Christmas lights and won a Christmas light competition one year. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening and watching Westerns.
Brad is survived by his son, Blake (Rachael) Beckett of Boone; his grandchildren: Julianne Jo Beckett, Jaibrenna Beckett, Hailey Beckett, Kayla Beckett, and Charly Beckett; a sister, Barb (Jim) Sturms of Muscatine; and his special friend, JoAnn Hicks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pam; two sons, Jay Brent Beckett and Tad Spencer
Beckett; and siblings: Bev (Jim) Turner and Jerry Beckett.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at 6th and
Marshall Streets in Boone and online condolences may be left for the family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Boone County 4H Horse Committee.
