Boone County Democrats Support Franken, Miller in Contested Races

BOONE, Iowa—A little over 1,250 voters took part in Tuesday’s Democratic Primary in Boone County. Voters easily support Michael Franken as the candidate in the U.S. Senate race, with 824 votes to 381 for Abby Finkenauer. Glen Hurst received 40 votes. The other contested State Race is for Secretary of State and Joel Miller downed Eric Van Lancker 737 to 344.

The Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Deidre DeJear had 1,179 voters, Ryan Melton running in the 4th Congressional race had 1,132 votes. State Auditor Rob Sand received 1,192 votes, Treasurer Mike Fitzgerald had 1,186 votes, candidate for Secretary of Agriculture John Norwood had 1,132 votes, and Attorney General Tom Miller received 1,183 votes.

Locally, Penny Vossler, on the ballot to challenge Representative Phil Thompson in the fall, received 1,134 votes. Stephen Duffy, seeking re-election to the Board of Supervisors had 1,124 votes. Chris Duncan, seeking re-election as County Recorder had 1,135 votes

Overall, just under 14% of registered Boone County voters took part in the primary. All results are unofficial until canvased by the Boone County Supervisors next week.
