BOONE, Iowa—Just over 1500 voters took part in Tuesday Republican Primary. In the contested primary races, Iowa Senator Charles Grassley easily led State Senator Jim Carlin, garnering about 75% of the vote, 1,123 to 377. In the Republican race for State Auditor, Todd Halbur picked up over 57% of the vote to lead Mary Ann Hanusa 765 to 570.
Governor Kim Reynolds had 1,436 votes, Congressman Randy Feenstra had 1,391 votes, Secretary of State Paul Pate received 1,393 votes. Other state wide offices included State Treasurer candidate Roby Smith with 1,311 votes, Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig had 1,358 votes, Attorney General candidate Brenna Bird had 1,296 votes.
Locally, State Representative Phil Thompson had 1,343 votes, Shawn Bryant, candidate for Supervisor received 1,305 votes, County Treasurer Lauren Novak had 1,351 votes, Erin Canfield, candidate for County Recorder had 1,293 votes, County Attorney Matt Speers received 1,319 votes.
Total vote turnout for both Republicans and Democrats amounted to just under 14%. All results are unofficial until canvased by the Boone County Supervisors next week.
