ANKENY, Iowa—DMACC, the largest undergraduate institution in Iowa, today announced the appointment of Dr. Jeanie McCarville-Kerber as Dean of Health & Public Services at the College.
Dr. McCarville-Kerber, who lives in Johnston, first joined DMACC in 2007 as a Human Services Professor and Faculty Group Leader, and most recently served as Dean of Business & Information Technology at the College. In her new role, she succeeds Art Brown, who recently departed DMACC for another administrative position in higher education.
“We are so pleased that Dr. McCarville-Kerber has accepted the role of Health and Public Services Dean at DMACC,” said MD Isley, Vice President of Academic Affairs at DMACC. “Her professional background, multiple years of teaching experience, and recent role and leadership as an Academic Dean at the College are in direct alignment with the needs of our Health and Public Services division.
“Her combined skills and experience will help ensure DMACC’s ability to deliver on Central Iowa’s health care education needs and the significant needs of the health care workforce.”
Nearly two dozen academic programs comprise the Health & Public Services division at DMACC, including Aging Services Management, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Dietary Management, Early Childhood Education, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Emergency Response, Fire Science, Fitness/Sports Management, Health Information Technology, Human Services, Medical Assistant, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Office Specialist, Medical Billing & Coding, Nurse Aide Certification (CNA), Nursing, Paramedic, Patient Access Specialist, Pre-Pharmacy and Respiratory Therapy.
Throughout her tenure at DMACC, Dr. McCarville-Kerber has served on numerous commissions and boards, including the DMACC Diversity Commission from 2007 to 2013; the Academic Standards Commission from 2014 to 2019; Coordinator of DMACC’s Guided Pathways from 2017 to 2021; and the faculty representative on the DMACC Foundation Board from 2019 to 2021. She has also served as Chair of the Diversity Commission and Academic Standards Commission.
Dr. McCarville-Kerber has also been recognized with the following awards:
· Iowa Academy of Education Outstanding Dissertation Award Nominee, 2017
· DMACC Diversity Commission Tapestry Award Recipient, 2014
· Tressa Youngbear Award from the Iowa Behavioral Health Association, 2014
· Jim Craft Award for Outstanding Graduate Thesis from the University of Iowa, 2000
Dr. McCarville-Kerber is active in her community, involved in training with Department of Human Services, and is a member of the Iowa Physicians Health Group Board, the Iowa Department of Public Health Strategic Planning and the Iowa Board of Certification Advisory Board.

Dr. McCarville Kerber earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Drake University, a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa, a master’s degree of Public Administration from Drake University and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Iowa State University. She began her new role at DMACC on Aug. 1.
