BOONE, Iowa—Joseph Slight, a seven year member of the Boone Police Department was promoted to Sergeant on the department, filling a vacancy created when Cory Rose resigned and accepted a position with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. Boone Police Chief John Wiebold said the department has been blessed with very good officers. He said Slight rose to the top of a group quality candidates for the position which also included Cole Hilsabeck, Daniel Lynch and Josh Olsen. Wiebold says Slight will be filling the fourth Shift Supervisor position. He has also served as a Training Officer. Slight is the son of Boone Mayor John Slight.
Wiebold said the process will begin this week to have the Civil Service Commission certify a list of candidates to be considered for the vacant patrol officer position on the department. He said there are seven candidates at this time. The last new officer on the Boone Police Department was Tina Ann Lair-Van Meter who was sworn in at a city council meeting in May.
