BOONE, Iowa—Boone Community School District is pleased to announce the names of the new elementary school and multi-purpose building that are under construction. In June, the board of education approved building naming committees as well as the parameters for the recommendation. Since then, the committees have been gathering community input and have brought forward a recommendation for each building at their August 17, 2022 Special Board Meeting at 10:30 a.m.
The board of education approved the following names:
Ledges Elementary School – New Elementary School
Crossroads Learning Hub – Futures Alternative High School and Boone HSAP Program
In March 2021, the voters in Boone Community School District approved a $23 million referendum to construct, furnish and equip a new elementary school building and to improve the site. This referendum passed with a staggering 80.54%, well above the state requirement of 60%. The location is east of the intersection of Hancock Drive and South Jackson Street – 1805 Hancock Drive and is slated to open for the 2023-24 school year.
After the successful completion of the bond referendum for the elementary school, the board of education made the decision to work on a new home for the Futures and Boone HSAP buildings. The facility will also house a half gym that will not only be used by the two programs but for athletic practices and community events. This project is funded by Secure an Advanced Vision for Education bond. This facility is located at 215 West 8th Street and is slated to open for the 2023-24 school year.
The school board would like to thank all that participated in the voting process to help name these buildings. It is a humbling experience seeing such strong participation and support for our schools!
