BOONE, Iowa—Harold Walter Kinne, 80, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone. Harold was born on April 26, 1942, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Walter Franz Kinne and Marie Dora (Nolte) Kinne. He grew up on a family farm near Burnside, Iowa, and graduated from East Central Webster High School in 1960. Harold graduated from AIB College of Business and worked in the transportation and logistics department at Meredith Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa. Later he received his National Futures Association Series 3 commodity broker’s license and worked in the industry for years.
In 1982 Harold married Connie Marie (Knox) Kinne in Urbandale, Iowa. Harold returned to the transportation business and was terminal manager for The Mickow Corporation (TMC) in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Harold and Connie purchased a Dairy Queen in December of 1991 in Onalaska, Wisconsin. They operated a very successful business with the help of a few family members. In 2004 they retired and built their dream home on Lake Thunderhead in Unionville, Missouri. They loved speeding around the lake with grandchildren and visiting with family and friends. Harold enjoyed collecting model cars, researching stocks, investing in the market, and singing in the choir at the church in Unionville. In March 2020, Harold sold the lake home and moved to a new home at the Eastern Star Masonic Home community in Boone to be closer to family.
Harold was proud of this family and loved them very much. Thank you to everyone who helped him stay in the lake home as long as he could, cared for his wife, traveled with him to see friends and family, and made trips to Boone to visit him or called to check in. You are all the best.
Harold is survived by three children: Scot Kinne and wife Wendy of Boone, IA; Kelli Knox of West Des Moines, IA; and Katie Knox of West Salem, WI; three grandchildren: Bret Kinne and wife Jade of Boone, IA, Erin Kinne and her fiancé Andrew Allen of Des Moines, IA, and Robert Goodenough of Sanford, FL; two great-grandchildren, Aiyana and Grayson of Des Moines, IA, and brother Darwin Kinne and wife Suzanne of Grinnell, IA.
