Dorothy Hoksbergen

BOONE, Iowa—Dorothy Mae (Lindahl) Hoksbergen, age 81 of Grundy Center and formerly of Boone, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022, at Eldora Specialty Care.Dorothy was born the daughter of Verne and Evelyn (Erickson) Lindahl on August 23, 1941 in Boone. She graduated from Boone High School in 1959 then put herself through cosmetology school in Des Moines. Dorothy then earned an accounting degree from DMACC.Dorothy was united in marriage to Harlan Wildt and from this union were two sons. The couple later separated. Dorothy met a nice man on KIOA Radio dating. She was united in marriage with Robert Hoksbergen on May 26, 1984.Dorothy worked in food service, including working at Iowa State as the head baker, McDonald’s in Story City and several others. She was the best at making Christmas candies and cookies, known for her sugar cookies (although her grandsons might have eaten them before others could try any).Dorothy was a member of the Coachman’s Camping Club and the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. She was always giving to everyone and selfless. Grandma Dorothy was the poster grandma, always having the best Christmases!Dorothy loved BINGO and going to the Meskwaki Bingo Casino in Tama. She enjoyed needlework, making baby blankets for all the newborns and puzzles. She collected Santa Clauses (with a collection of 5000) and watches.Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jeff Wildt in 2018; and siblings, Vera (Ray) Sullivan, Jim (Joyce) Lindahl, Don Lindahl and Charlotte Lindahl.She is survived by her husband, Bob of Grundy Center; son, Troy Wildt of Iowa Falls; stepchildren, Wayne Hoksbergen, Alan Hoksbergen, Scott Hoksbergen, Charma (Eric) Axtell and Jeffery Kersbergen; grandchildren, Josh Wildt (Angie), Jake Wildt, Sydney Butler, Damien and Ethan Axtell and Bret; great grandchildren, Owen, Caleb and Charity Wildt; sisters, Joyce Kerns of Nevada, Nancy (Cloyd) Platter of Boone and Cheri (Smiley) Troutman of Laramie, WY; sister-in-law, Shirley Lindahl of Boone; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 29, 2022 at the Boone Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will begin at 12:00 P.M. on Monday, August 29, 2022 at the Herman Park Pavilion. This is a potluck, feel free to bring a dish to share.Online condolences may be left at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family for later designation.Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets is in charge of arrangements.
