BOONE, Iowa—Jess Soderstrum has been hired to fill the county director vacancy with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Boone County. As county director, she will supervise the office’s day-to-day operations and coordinate extension ag and natural resource programs in the county.
“We are excited to have Jess join our team. Her experience with extension and her connections in Boone County will be valuable assets to our team and our programming,” said Rich Wrage, regional director for ISU Extension and Outreach.
Soderstrum, who grew up on a cattle farm near Luther, is excited to be back working in her home county. “I’m looking forward to working with the Boone County team and expanding programming in all four extension program areas. My background is in ag, so I’m especially excited to get involved with Master Gardeners, Master Conservationists, Women in Ag and Annie’s Project,” she added. One of her first priorities is to connect with the Boone Chamber of Commerce and other civic organizations to identify new partnerships and build relationships. She started as county director Sept. 6.
Soderstrum previously served as county youth coordinator in Story County for three years and was a 4-H summer assistant in Boone County for two years. She has a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Iowa State University.
