BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Police Department today released a statement on the departments Facebook page reminding those celebrating Homecoming tossing toilet paper to keep a couple of things in mind:
TPing someone’s property is vandalism and entering on the property of others without permission is trespassing. Also, parents or adults who drive children to do this are also committing a crime.
Each year during Homecoming week we get a number of calls from people upset about this practice. Many in the community think this is a fun tradition, but others do not. Homeowners have the right to want people to stay off of the property they have worked hard for.
A suggestion would be for the parents who like this practice to get together and let their kids TP each other’s houses. This would allow the “tradition” to stay alive without unduly upsetting others.
Be considerate of others and be safe.
