Weekly Fuel Report

DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has released the weekly fuel report, which once again saw and increase in gasoline prices.  The price of regular unleaded gasoline rose 3 cents, averaging $3.63 across Iowa according to AAA.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $2.87 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $82.22.
  • Brent crude oil fell $2.57 and currently priced at $89.39.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $75.29 and Brent crude was at $78.30.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Wednesday, September 28, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.63 across Iowa according to AAA.
    • Prices rose 3 cents from last week’s price and $.62 higher than one year ago.
    • The national average on Wednesday was $3.77 up 9 cents from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa were down 7 cents this week with a statewide average of $4.70.
    • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $3.16 in Iowa.
    • The current Iowa diesel price is 18 cents less than the national average of $4.88.
  • Wholesale ethanol held steady and is currently priced at $2.16.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.73 for U87-E10, $3.22 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $3.36 for ULSD#2, $3.67 for ULSD#1, and $2.65 per gallon for E-70 prices.

Heating Fuels

  • Natural gas prices fell $.91 at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently priced at $6.93/MMbtu.
  • Continuing throughout the summer months, we will only report retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa once a month.
