AMES, Iowa—Jeanine Wing-Grant, age 85, of Ames, IA, passed away at Mary Greeley’s Israel Family Hospice House on October 14, 2022, with family by her side.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Boone, IA at 11:00 AM with Pastor Adam Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Rockwell City.
Jeanine was born in Rockwell City, IA, the daughter of Claire and Lois Pascoe Treman, on May 8, 1937. She graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1955 and Grinnell College with a degree in English Literature in 1959. She married her high school sweetheart, Bill Wing in 1960 and due to Bill’s promotions with Prentice Hall and McGraw Hill Book Publishing, she moved several times, teaching Junior High School English in Marshalltown and Des Moines, IA and Madison, WI. She also enjoyed her days as a librarian in Adrian, MI and Rogers, AR.
Most important to Jeanine was family. Spending time with her first husband, Bill, their children and grandchildren, her sister Marilyn and husband Gary.
She loved reading, playing tennis and pickle-ball, cooking, entertaining family and friends as well as watching sports, listening to good music, especially jazz and working on creative projects, such as photo albums, basket-weaving and greeting cards.
Jeanine sang in music groups in high school, college and various church choirs. She was a camp counselor, led youth groups and taught Sunday School as well as participated in book clubs in various communities and was a member of PEO.
Bill and Jeanine were married for 42 years before his accidental death in February 2001. In 2003, she married her longtime friend, Dr. David Grant and was blessed with extended family including a much beloved rescue dog named Hank. They shared many happy years together traveling and enjoying winter months with friends in Green Valley, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, and first husband, Bill Wing. Jeanine is survived by her three children, John (Lisa) Wing of Wayzata, MN; Michael (Kim) Wing of Grayslake, IL; and Jill (Eric) Lacher of San Jose, CA; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Gary Cook of Beloit, WI; six grandchildren, including, Jack (Taylor) Wing; Luke and Kate Wing of MN; and Asher, Brayden and Charlotte Wing of Grayslake, IL; second husband, David Grant and his six children, Jeff (Jian) Grant; Pamela Sassman; Jenny (Jason) Bailey; Beth (Michael) Olderoy; Jerrod (Tina) Grant; Jessica Grandstaff and Dave’s eight grandchildren, Hakon Grant; Alaina and Olivia Sassman; Jackson and Quincy Bailey; Nora and Connor Grant; Ava Grandstaff.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or First United Methodist Church in Boone.
