BOONE, Iowa—Michael Newbold, age 83 of Boone, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022 at UnityPoint Health- Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Michael Jon Newbold was born on August 5, 1939 at home in Centerville, IA, the fifth child of Cyrus and Edna (Jack) Newbold. They moved to Boone while Michael was in junior high. He graduated from Boone High School in 1957 and Boone Junior College in 1960. Michael was united in marriage with Mary Jo McLeod. From this union came two sons, Lance and Coby. The couple later divorced.
In March of 1992 Michael married Lynn Eaton. They were happily married for over 30 years.
Michael owned and operated Cardinal Cleaners for over 50 years. He chose to not retire as he considered Cardinal Cleaners to be his hobby. He loved morning coffee with the guys and treasured his daughter working alongside him.
Michael was a fantastic story teller and quite witty. “The Legend” knew everybody and loved to give out nicknames. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and an active supporter in the community. When the boys were younger Michael enjoyed coaching, supporting the Toreadors and dedicated countless hours to the Boone Booster Club and the Jaycees. Michael was very patriotic. He cleaned US flags for the VFW. The VFW awarded Michael with a plaque acknowledging his years of service in 2019. Most recently Michael was awarded the 2022 Community Dedication Award by the City of Boone.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings. He is survived by his wife Lynn; sons, Lance (Margell) Newbold of Edmond, OK and Coby (Paulette) Newbold of Boone; daughter, Kristin (John) Selby of Boone; 13 grandchildren; along with countless nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be directed to the Boone High Booster Club, 1044 192nd St, Boone, IA 50036..
