Boone County Voters Support Republican Candidates

BOONE, Iowa—Boone County voters backed all the Republican candidates on the ballot Tuesday. Unofficially, over 11,000 votes were cast or more than 56% of the registered voters.
In Boone County, Chuck Grassley beat Michael Franken 6,453 to 4,616. Randy Feenstra had 6,611 votes to 4,069 for Ryan Melton and 270 votes for Bryan Jack Holder.
Boone County voters also backed Governor Kim Reynolds and Adam Gregg with 6,810 votes to 4,063 for Deidre DeJear and Eric Van Lancker. Libertarian Rick Steward and Marco Battaglia received 317 votes.
Paul Pate easily outdistanced Joel Miller 7,209 to 3,842 in the Secretary of State race. For State Auditor Todd Halbur had a tight race in Boone County over Rob Sand, 5,585 to 5,427. Roby Smith led Michael Fitzgerald 5,641 to 5,363 in the State Treasurers race and Ag Secretary Mike Naig easily led John Norwood 7,058 to 3,892. For Attorney General, Boone County voters supported Brenna Bird 5,720 to 5,292 for Tom Miller.
Boone County voters easily re-elected Phil Thompson as State Representative in District 48 Tuesday. Thompson had 60% of the vote with 6,636 to 4,104 for Democratic challenger Penny Vossler. Luke Barnes an Independent from Story County collected 240 votes.
Voters have selected a new Supervisor. The unofficial results from the Tuesday election have Shawn Bryant with 5,961 votes to 4,970 for incumbent Stephen Duffy. Voters have also elected a new Boone County Recorder, giving Erin Canfield 5,724 votes to incumbent Chris Duncan’s 5,111.
Voters did keep the four incumbents to the Boone County Hospital Board of Trustees, with Meredith Nerem receiving 6,461 votes, Brian Reimers 5,655, Lisa Kobernusz with 5,578 and Bob Getschman with 4,387 votes. Keith Puntenney received 4,131 votes in his challenge to join the Board.
There were five candidates on the ballot for the five positions on the Boone County Agricultural Extension Council. Jeff Erb received 6,406 votes followed by Tom Kauffman with 5,942, Ronald Swanson with 5,765, Jennifer Barnum with 5,715 and Romona Jolliffe Satre with 5,608.
The two candidates for the Boone County Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioners were incumbents Stephen Carlson and Melissa Sturgeon-Bice. They received 6,611 and 6,200 votes respectively.
Boone County Treasurer Lauren Novak and Boone County Attorney Matthew Speers were unopposed and received 9,130 and 8,741 votes respectively.
All local elections results are unofficial until canvased by the Boone County Supervisors next week.
