BOONE, Iowa—Gail “Rod” Engleen, age 83 of Boone, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Boone County Hospital.
Gail Rodney Engleen was born on December 12, 1938 in Ogden, the son of Emmett and LaRue (Morgan) Engleen. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1959. Rod enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for four years. His service to his country was one of many great accomplishments.
Rod worked for the Carpenter’s Local Union 106 until retiring in the early 2000s.
On June 25, 1967, Rod was united in marriage to Nancy Johnson at the First United Methodist Church in Boone. Rod and Nancy welcome four children into their lives and shared 55 years together. Rod was the most loving, kind and caring husband, dad and grandpa. He always put his family before himself.
Rod was preceded in death by his mother, LaRue; brother-in-law, Ron Harris and his beloved cat named Chicken. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Marty (Virginia) Engleen of Houston, TX, Chad Engleen and Brian (Cari) Engleen, all of Boone; daughter, Melissa (Neal) Valcroft of Minneapolis, MN; grandsons, Dylan and Brayden Engleen; 3 grand-kittens; brother, Dwight Engleen of Slater; sister, Dianne Harris of Cedar Rapids; and 4 nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the Boone Open Bible Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family for later designation.
