BOONE, Iowa—Iola N. Leland, age 95 of Boone, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home.

Iola was born in Boone, IA on April 2, 1927 to Edward and Louise (Tonsfeldt) Shell. She grew up on a farm west of Boone along with her older sister Verdine and younger brothers and sisters Mahlon, Leland, Mary Lou, Jane, Fran, Karen and Joyce and siblings Emma and John that passed shortly after birth.

Iola was united in marriage to John C. Leland (Jack) on June 13, 1951 and celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary three days prior to his death in 1976. They remained in Boone and raised three sons Dennis (Nancy), John (Laura), Gary and daughter Ann.

Iola was a great care giver to her four kids. She enjoyed sewing quilts or crocheting Afghans for her kids and grandkids, played bingo, bowled on a league for several years, loved to cook and bake and have the family together for holidays where her scratch made pies and desserts were a favorite for all. Most family dinners were followed by a laughter-filled card game that went into the wee hours of the night while the cousins all played games outside. She enjoyed spending time with her siblings and friends. Iola will be greatly missed by all that knew her including her 8 grandkids and 6 great grandkids.

Iola will be welcomed into Heaven by her husband Jack; sisters Verdine, Karen and Emma; brothers Leland and John; parents Edward and Louise; along with several other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Augustana Lutheran Church.
