BOONE, Iowa—Louann (Wood) Whitcher, age 92 of Boone, died on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Louann was born the daughter of Greenville A. and Lucille M. (Hastings) Wood on June 20, 1930 in Perry. She graduated from Perry High School.

On June 24, 1949, Louann was united in marriage with Benjamin David Whitcher. From this union were two children, Mark and Nancy. Benjamin passed away in September of 2005.

Louann worked as a receptionist for many years at the Boone County Hospital until her retirement. Louann was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Boone. When she was not lending a hand at church, she enjoyed puzzles, quilting, making cookies and spending time with her grandchildren.

Louann is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Benjamin; and brother, Richard Wood. She is survived by her children, Mark Whitcher and Nancy Roney, both of Boone; grandchildren, Patricia (Cory) Bennett, Lisa Gomez, Jacob (Pheboe) Carl, Taylor (Justin) Adams and Jason (Bryne) Whitcher; great grandchildren, Skielar (Skyler) Hendrix, Gage Gomez (Kara Jones), Isebelle Gomez, Claire Gomez, Prudence Carl, Lana and Sadie Adams and Ben Whitcher; great-great grandchildren, Preston Bennett and Esmme Gomez; and a niece, Kelly (John) Krause.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Days Saints in Boone. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will be in the Woodward Cemetery.
