BOONE, Iowa—Brent Spencer, age 48 of Boone, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 9, 2023 in his shop.
Brent Anson Spencer was born on February 16, 1974, the son of Cheryl Spencer in Des Moines. He attended Waukee High School.
Brent was united in marriage with Faith Drury on February 1, 1997. From this union were three children, Caleb, Jacob and Chelsea. The couple later separated.
Brent met Shay Conyers in May of 2002. The couple created a life together and became a big happy family embracing Shay’s children Matthew and Samantha as his own.
Brent was involved with his family where he was needed and could be. He was so proud of his kids even if he did not always show it on the outside, they were the light of his life. Brent was the kind of husband, father, son, brother, friend that was always there; If he could, he would… even if he was late. Brent was on his own time no matter where he was going or what was going on.
Brent was a handy man his whole life- a carpenter, an electrician, a mechanic. If it could be fixed, Brent could fix it, if he couldn’t fix it he would fabricate it and if he couldn’t do anything, he’d just park it out back. Brent would tell you that duct tape is almost always the answer.
Brent loved the Lord and consistently prayed for his family. He is gone too soon and will be missed dearly by many but we can find peace in knowing he is home with His Lord.
Brent was preceded in death by his grandparents, Don and Dolores Spencer. He is survived by his mom and dad, Cheryl and Ron Rathbun of Woodward; wife, Shay Conyers of Boone; children, Jacob (Jordyn) Spencer, Caleb (Emily) Spencer and Chelsea Spencer and their mom, Faith Spencer, all of Des Moines, Matthew Walker of Ames and Samantha Pritchard of Boone; granddaughters, Lucille Meier, EllaRae Wright and Hunter Walker; siblings, Terry (Athila) Scoville, Chandra Houghtaling, Richard (Shelby) Houghtaling, Jamey Greene and Wendy Houghtaling (Rowdy Demers); along with countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and extended family.
