BOONE, Iowa—Viola Lycke, age 99 of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023.
Viola Mary Rardin was born on October 13, 1923 in Dallas County, the daughter of Arnel Lester and Cystal Dolly (Rans) Rardin. Her father passed in 1926 and her mother married Holly Rardin. Viola graduated from Boone High School in 1942.
Viola was united in marriage with Leonard Earl Lycke on December 3, 1940 in Nevada, IA. From this union, they were blessed with one daughter, Shirley.
Viola was a sales associate for Graham’s, Ross’ and Beno’s from 1954 until 1986. Leonard and Vi owned Yellow Cab Company where she worked until retiring in 1998.
Viola was a member of the American Business Women’s Association for 19 years and bowled in leagues for over 50 years. She loved to watch her grandsons sporting events, enjoying time with her great-granddaughters and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones and Yankees.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, Arnel Rardin and Crystal (Holly) Rardin; husband of 62 years, Leonard in 2002; brothers, Albert, Harold, Virgil and Francis Rardin; sister, Velma DeVoogd; and in-laws, Norman (Corky) Lycke, Geneva (Bob) Wilson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Ted Bergloff of Boone; grandsons, Tony (Kate) Bergloff and Rick (Gay) Bergloff; great-granddaughters, Ashley (Justin) Love and Cassidy (Josh) Olvera; great-great grandson, Ronin Olvera; and sister-in-law, Barb Rardin of Boone.
Per Viola’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no services held at this time. Private Family Burial will be at a later date at Boone Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Boone Area Humane Society.
