DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has released the weekly fuel report and the price of gasoline continues it’s decline. The price of regular unleaded gasoline fell 2 cents, averaging $3.17 across Iowa according to AAA.

Crude Oil Summary

  • The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $1.42 per barrel, currently priced at $76.25.
  • Brent crude oil rose $1.47 and is currently priced at $82.94.
  • One year ago, WTI crude sold for $103.41 and Brent crude was at $110.93.

Motor Fuels

  • As of Wednesday, March 1, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.17 across Iowa according to AAA.
    • Prices fell 2 cents from last week’s price and are 23 cents lower than one year ago.
    • The national average on Wednesday was $3.36, down 4 cents from last week’s price.
  • Retail diesel prices in Iowa were down 9 cents this week with a statewide average of $3.97.
    • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $3.81 in Iowa.
    • The current Iowa diesel price is 43 cents less than the national average of $4.40.
  • Wholesale ethanol held steady and is currently priced at $2.16.
  • The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.37 for U87-E10, $2.70 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $2.89 for ULSD#2, $3.42 for ULSD#1, and $2.30 per gallon for E-70 prices.

Heating Fuels

  • Propane prices held steady with a statewide average of $1.95 per gallon.
  • Home heating oil prices rose 1 cent, with a statewide average of $3.42 per gallon
  • Natural gas prices rose 38 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently priced at $2.71/MMbtu.
